Retirement in 2021


I am writing to you today to let you know that Lynn and I are retiring this year. We are not, however, retiring from church life. We see a window of opportunity in this season of life to serve the Lord as missionaries in Latin America. Lynn will be teaching English, and I will be teaching bible at Sojourn Academy in San Jose Costa Rica this school year.

Lynn and I went on an exploration trip to Costa Rica over the Memorial Day weekend. We want to thank Risen Hope Church and others who supported us in this first leg of our journey. We felt that you were with us as we traveled from place to place.

On the first day of our three day trip,  we visited Pastor Rodrigo Fournier’s church, La Vina. The worship at their socially distant service was amazing. Lynn and I are still learning Spanish so we did not understand much, but we could feel God’s presence as we sang the Spanish lyrics from the projected words. Rodrigo delivered a passionate message from The Sermon on the Mount challenging all of us to be peacemakers with those with whom we have conflict. 


On the second Day we visited Chespie’s church, Campamento Casa Vida Playa Azul. This location is on the coast, about an hour from San Jose. At this church Alvaro, a church deacon, served as an interpreter for Chespie’s message. It is so exciting to see God working through Sovereign Grace Churches to  form strategic partnerships with amazing church planters in Costa Rica. 

On the third day we visited Sojourn Academy, a former coffee farm converted to a Christian school by missionaries 40 years ago. Their mission is to teach people Spanish so they can share the gospel with the Latin American world. There are currently missionaries learning Spanish at the Spanish Language Institute which is at the same location. These missionaries have placed their children into Sojourn Academy. We however, will be teaching English and Bible to missionary and Costa Rican students who may one day see His kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We also plan to support our newly adopted Sovereign Grace churches in the area.

Trip to India December 2024

  India Mission Trip We are leaving for a mission trip to India on December 9th and will return on December 18th. I will be traveling with Ashish and  Sanjeevini  Lokhande to celebrate a family  celebration in Mumbai. Then Ashish and I will travel to Andra Pradesh to visit my good friend Pastor Raju at his compoud near Peddapurim India. Pastor Raju has a compound there where he houses about 30 orphans and several widows that draw support from his ministry. He also pastors three churches and oversees about 100 tribal and Dalit churches. On the 16th of December we will be participating in a tribal pastor's training conference. I have been invited to speak there. I have also invited my friend, Pastor J.P. Risen Hope Mission to Costa Rica April 2022

  March came in like a lamb, knocked us down like a lion , and ended like a lamb. This month we were able to start a marriage mentoring group in the Cartago Church. We had a major car accident on the road to Panama at the Costa Rican border, and we ended the second trimester at school. There is just one trimester to go! It’s hard to believe that we are now scheduled to leave Costa Rica at the end of July. We did mention Saint Patrick’s Day, but most of the students had never heard of it. The highlight of this month’s chapels was taking a group selfie when we were discussing the theme of Christian Unity. Gospel Patrons

This past trimester of the school year I  taught on the book of Acts and the missionary journeys of Paul for my 8th and 9th grade classes. As I combed through the passages with the help of my Bob Jones study guide, I discovered some new kinds of missionaries that I had not seen in scripture before. An obscure passage in II Timothy peaked my interest. The passage is II Timothy 4:12: " Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.” Paul wrote about Tychicus in the context of his own persecution by Alexander the Coppersmith. It seems that Tychicus was from Ephesus. Ephesus was arguably Paul’s most difficult church plant. The city was filled with people engaging in occult practices, and many people were being manipulated by the Devil. Paul placed Timothy, his most trusted disciple, who was like a son to him, over Ephesus.
